• Breaking Bad Who would have thought that the dad from Malcom in the Middle would be the best actor in the year’s best show – even in a race as tight as this? I’m so counting down to March 09 and season 2.
• Mad Men Sublime, stylish, sexy, sexist, scary, smart. More than once have I asked myself, What would Don Draper do?
• The Wire Although season 5 wasn’t 111% awesome like season 4, it’s still The Wire. The one and only. We didn’t make a gingerbread version of any of the other shows.

Best excuse to get Barack Obama on this list

• My own video from Times Square on election night I can’t believe I was there.
• Newsweek’s special election project LOTS of juicy details for news nerds.
• Nate Silver from 538 is the nerd hero of the election, even when the whole thing was won by a nerd.

Goes to Alex Blumberg, Adam Davidson, David Kestenbaum and Laura Conaway in NPR’s podcast and blog Planet Money. Although they scare the shit out of me, it’s comforting to know how little you understand. The starting point for me was two excellent shows they made together with This American life, called The Giant Pool of Money and Another Frightening Show About the Economy.
